About Us

California Ballaz AAU Program was established in the fall of 2005 by its director and coach Leroy Hurt. The Ballaz AAU Program formerly existed as Bay Area Magic from 1997 – 2005. As the Assistant Director of the Magic program, Leroy Hurt oversaw its growth from one 17 & Under team, to a program with multiple teams in age groups from 10 & Under – 15 & Under. As life has taught us all, an ending of anything creates a new opportunity and a new beginning for another – thus the California Ballaz has the opportunity to begin with a new direction and focus.

The goal of the Ballaz Program is simple: We want to exist as a program for the players, by the players. Our program puts the needs and requirements of the players 1st.

  • We coach in the best interest of the player.
  • We teach in the best interest of the player.
  • We discipline in the best interest of the player.
  • Our goals are to develop your daughter on and off the basketball court individually.

With this individual focus, each player will develop talents to contribute to the overall team effort.

Skills on the court are only one aspect of a California Ballaz player. We are proud to announce that 70% of our players (31 total out of 44) have and maintain a 3.0 GPA or above. It is critical that our players and parents understand that a High School and College education are MANDATORY. Playing college basketball IS NOT. Our primary focus through training and practice sessions are on basketball fundamentals. The California Ballaz and every other AAU team have talent, but we stress maximizing a player’s athleticism and mental approach to the game.

  • Know specific situations and the proper play/decision in each case.
  • Know when to take a shot and be aggressive.
  • Know proper court positioning for rebounding, shooting, etc.
  • We stress understanding THE GAME.
  • Simply put…….KNOW YOUR CRAFT.

Our program (Bay Area based) has brought a variety of communities together as the CA Ballaz players come from Antioch, Benicia, Berkeley, Concord, Dublin, Fairfield, Fremont, Hayward, Hercules, Oakland, Pittsburg, Pleasanton, Vallejo, Richmond, San Francisco, San Leandro, and Walnut Creek. Through the representation of various cities around the East Bay, CA Ballaz has created a melting pot of many races.

We sincerely hope you like the information we have presented regarding our program and should you need to contact us please go to the appropriate web page for our contact information.
